Chickens, Chickens, and other farm news!

Posted 4/2/2013 1:17pm by Michael Scheidel.
Hey good folks!

Pastured Chicken
Some of you have already asked about pre-ordering for this year's Little Peace Farm organically pastured chicken.  Well, you'll have to wait but we'll send an e-mail out when the first batch is ready to go which will be some time in mid-June.  The quality of locally raised, pastured chicken versus conventional store bought is incredible. We are still eating our frozen chicken from our last batch from October and they're delicious and hold up well in a freezer.  So stay tuned for news about our HONEST CHICKEN!

Laying Hens
Once again, we're increasing our flock of pastured laying hens and are adding our new flock this week.  I'm making the final touches on the new "egg-mobile" which is an old wagon bed with a hoophouse on top where they'll roost and lay.  We can move it with the tractor to new green pasture very easily now and since we bought the rest of the farm last year, we have the room to move them to!  That means we'll have more delicious HONEST EGGS available here at the farm throughout the season!  I'll keep in touch about buying eggs here at the farm.

We are planning our annual spring plant sale for the end of April/beginning of May.  We don't have an exact date yet but stay tuned for details.  Included in the sale will be: heirloom tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, flowers, herbs, and various garden vegetable plants.  We will also be selling bags of MacEnroe Organic Potting Mix.  I get this mix specially shipped from NY where it is produced and have used it for the past 7 years.  The quality is excellent and you can be assured that it doesn't include any toxic wetting agents or synthetic fertilizers.  Stay tuned on the exact date and times of the sale.

We have decided to end our CSA drop off locations in Hazelton, Allentown, and Exton and have begun to accept shares in the Reading area.  Makes sense to us as Reading is so much closer and so much more familiar to us.
We've made some great contacts and have already met some fine folks from Reading so we're looking forward to grow there.

Thank all of you who ordered Organic Citrus from us this year and thank you Thorpe's Organic Family Farm in NY for being so dedicated to and diverse in what you grow!  We've never tasted citrus so good!

We have CSA shares available for the 2013 season so if you are interested or know someone who is, visit our website or call us for details. If you are a current CSA member and want/can donate to our Good Steward Share, let us know; the number of these share is pretty slim so far this year!  Pray for some nice spring weather!
