Meet the chickens

​Meet our lovely ladies. I spend hours watching them, they have very individual characters. The boss of them is our cuckoo leghorn bantam, she’s called Rizzo after the character in Grease: She's mean but misunderstood!

We gather around 7 eggs a day from our 10 ladies, they are always thanked. The eggs are delicious- sometimes we have to hunt for them and find them in some strange places like the middle of the field, the tool shed, in a carrier bag…….

The chickens are mainly named and owned by our grandchildren, names include Heather, Flower, Patty and Ginger (the chickens not the children!)

Feeding time is always an event and is a great way of getting to know them, they like to be nursed and stroked and can be surprisingly affectionate.
